  The 2024 Sunbelt Ag Expo will be held on October 15-17, in Moultrie, GA. The Georgia Young Farmers will have their annual Que-Fest at the Sunbelt Ag Expo on Wednesday October 16, 2024, followed by a dinner that night. Stop by the Young Farmer tent for some sweet treats and visit with the local Young Farmer chapters as they compete for the best meat, best booth, and in a game of horse shoes.

An Animal Health and Vet Science (AHVS) BriefCASE will be hosted at UGA in Athens, GA on Jan 31-Feb 1, 2025. In this course, students apply veterinary skills to address practical challenges and gain an understanding of the intricate relationships between animal health and care. This event is only open to teachers in MS AL, GA, SC, NC, FL, LA, and TN. The application is due on September 10th, 2024. Each selected participant will receive a scholarship to go towards the event cost.

  Sad News - Dr. Maynard Iverson

Dr. Maynard Iverson recently passed away. He was a true friend to Georgia Agricultural Education. His efforts in recruiting and training agricultural education teachers continue in Georgia today.  There will be a Celebration of Life at St Steven's Catholic Church, 4827 S. Dobson Rd, in Sun Lakes, AZ on November 6, 11-12:30. If you can't attend, Dr. Iverson requested a donation to the Knights of Columbus (c/o St. Stevens) in his name, in lieu of flowers.

  Congratulations to 157 Georgia FFA members who earned the 2023 American FFA Degree! Please check the list of American Degree recipients and the American Degree Recipient orientation packet. If a student has concern about the way their name/chapter are listed, they need to make contact with National FFA before Friday, September 1. To alert National FFA to an update to name/chapter, the student should email americandegree@ffa.org with a very clear description of the correction.

  Each year the state FFA officer team serve as  delegates, and we seek other bright, hard working, high character young people to fill the remaining  delegate   spots. Please see the  2023 National Convention Delegate application. Applications are due June 15. Any high school student is eligible to apply, including 2023 graduates, but preference will be given to students who are rising 11th  and 12th graders and those who just graduated this year.

  The U.S. Department of Education recently launched the Your Place in Space Challenge, inspiring high school students to envision & pursue careers in the space industry. This is the first challenge in CTE Momentum, an annual challenge series to prepare high school students for rewarding careers and increase access to career and technical education. High schools are invited to submit designs for a product or service that will contribute to space missions and exploration.

  Please Keep the Glover family in your prayers as long time Twiggs County Ag Teacher Ricardo Glover passed away Tuesday. I know several folks were able to send him a video message Tuesday just hours before his passing. His wife said he was able to watch them and smiled the whole time.

  The Georgia FFA Association will host a virtual Career Show as part of the virtual state convention week. The virtual Career Show will open on Monday, April 19, and will feature information about industry, colleges and universities. The virtual Career Show will also feature Sponsor/Industry Meet & Greet sessions each day. FFA chapters are encouraged to utilize class time on April 19-23, to engage with industry representatives and learn more about potential careers in agriculture.

  Georgia Foundation of Agriculture Scholarship application due March 1st

  The purpose of the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Scholarship for Agriculture is to assist outstanding high school students who plan to pursue a career focusing on agriculture and who exhibit leadership skills for active involvement in the agriculture sector. The Foundation will award 10 scholarships of $3,000 each. For the first time, the top 3 ranking applicants will be eligible for an additional $1,000 bonus.  
 

  SAE Grant Application Now Open

  Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Grants of $1,000 are available to start or expand member SAEs. The SAE Grant application process is now open and closes Nov. 15. Eligible grant applications are scored and the grant recipients will be announced mid-December. Students can access the application through the application center at FFA.org and on the SAE Grant webpage.   The National FFA Scholarship Program application is now open. Scholarships support FFA members who are current Seniors in high school seniors (class of 2021) and who have graduated from high school in 2019 or 2020. Just one application is required for multiple scholarship opportunities totaling close to $2 million dollars. The FFA scholarship application closes on Jan. 14, 2021.

  Georgia Association of Conservation Districts Scholarship To encourage study and careers in soil and water conservation related fields, GACD administers one $1,500 scholarship each year.   Georgia FFA had a very successful trip to the 92 National FFA Convention. Georgia came home with 16 National Winners, including an American Star, 5 proficiency awards, 2 CDEs, 7 Agriscience Fair and the Outstanding Middle School chapter. We also had several more top 5 finishes. Couple that with the largest class of American Degree recipients our state has ever had, and it was a very successful trip to Indianapolis.

  Georgia Ag Ed Elementary Standards & revised Middle School Ag Ed standards were approved at the June 2019 State Board of Education Meeting.  Georgia currently has 20 schools enrolled in the Ag Ed Elementary Pilot Program, which begins the Fall 2019.  Georgia currently has 109 middle school Ag Ed programs, with over 33,000 students enrolled in middle grades agricultural education.

  Thomas County Central first to receive Longleaf Learning Landscape in Georgia

  Starting this week, many students at Thomas County Central High School are trading books for shovels. The school is excited for their new outdoor classroom, a plot of longleaf pines. Tall Timbers, Georgia Forestry and International Forest Company partnered together to bring the special project to their first Georgia high school. The Longleaf Learning Landscape plans to integrate a new way of learning, while helping the longleaf pine ecosystem.

  91st National FFA Convention Press Release

  The 91st National FFA Convention was held in Indianapolis, IN on October 23-27th. The convention not only had a record attendance, including a concert performance by Garth Brooks and keynote address from the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Some highlights of Georgia FFA members in at the convention include 19 national winners, 23 3-Star chapters, 134 American Degree recipients, an American Star finalist and 7 Honorary American Degree recipients. Governor Deal signed SB 330 during the 90th Ga FFA Convention! The Ga DOE Ag Ed Staff will send out more information regarding the criteria & application process. Local School Systems interested in implementing one of the pilot programs for elementary school agricultural education is encouraged to contact Mr. BridgesMr. CorzineMr. Mitchell or Mr. Tucker.  The applications will be made available prior to June 1st with an expected deadline for LEA completion by June 30th, 2018.

  Over 650 AgEd students participated in a 2017 Day of Service for the city of Macon before the Georgia State FFA Convention. Click on the infograph below to learn more about the impact Georgia FFA had in Macon with the 2017 Living to Serve Community service project.  Next week, FFA members will meet again in Macon prior to the 1st general session of the 90th Georgia State FFA Convention for a day of service in Macon, GA.

  The dates for the WLC bus trip are June 18-24, 2018. The student conference fee is $1,125 and the advisor fee is $1,214. This fee covers most meals, lodging, conference material, and bus transportation. All WLC registration material is due to the State FFA Office by April 5th . A $450 deposit is due with the registration form. Do not use the Ag Career Network to register. WLC Scholarship applications are due March 1st. See Georgia FFA website for more info.

Camp John Hope FFA-FCCLA Center is accepting applications for 2017 Summer Staff! CJH will have the first week of Summer Leadership Camp, May 29th-June 2nd. The Summer Staff program at CJH will work the week of SLC as well as with rental groups, FVSU STEM camp, & COLT throughout the summer. CJH Summer staff will continue to assist in areas of recreation, pool, grounds, and food service,but not be responsible for programming.

  FFA members must watch the movie, Deep in the Heart, and then submit an essay focused on a topic tied to discussion themes: Stewardship, Faith, Resiliency, FFA and 4-H. The program is open to any current FFA member in good standing. If the winner is not a graduating senior, the scholarship will be held in escrow until claimed. Essays must be submitted to the Georgia FFA Foundation by midnight February 17, by e-mail to kjones@gaaged.org or by mail, but they must be postmarked by February 17.

  Lasseter Equipment Group has again generously donated a John Deere zero turn mower for our Blue & Gold Gala raffle. This is a great fundraiser for the Georgia FFA Foundation. This is the only fundraiser where we ask chapters to help raise money for the Foundation. Each chapter is asked to sell at least 10 tickets.  The drawing for will be held at the 9th Annual Blue & Gold Gala on Friday, March 11. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO WIN! Cash prizes available for chapters who sell the most tickets.

  In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Smith-Hughes Act, the National Council for Agricultural Education is announcing a logo design contest. This contest is open to students currently enrolled in K-12 and post-secondary agricultural education and related programs (e.g. agricultural communications, agricultural leadership) with cash prizes provided for the top three designs ($500, $300, & $200). The 2015 FFA Day at the Fair Middle School Program will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, in Reaves Arena at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Georgia National Fair in Perry. This activity targets agricultural education students and FFA members in grades 6-9 only and is designed to offer an interactive look at what agricultural education and the FFA have to offer.

  Ag Technologies Cornhole Tournament at State FFA Convention

  Richard Woods, Georgia's School Superintendent announced, Monday, Mar 2nd that the Ga Department of Education and Ga Department of Agriculture will celebrate National Agriculture Week, Mar 15-21, 2015; in addition to the Governor's Ag Day on Mar 10th. GaDOE and the GaDOA will hold an essay contest, poster contest, and coloring contest. All entries should focus on the 2015 theme, “Agriculture in my county & state: What does agriculture do for me?” Entries are due no later than Friday, April 3.
